Reduced “DWI” (Driving While Intoxicated) Charge in Chesterfield County, VA
Today in Chesterfield General District Court, I represented a client faced with a serious DWI charge. In Virginia, DWI’s are a Class 1 misdemeanor which can carry up to a year in jail and/or a $2500 fine. The penalty for a DWI is dependent on your BAC (Blood Alcohol Content), the facts of the case, and whether or not it was your first offense.

In this particular case, I was able to work out a plea agreement with the prosecution to allow for my client to plead to a lesser “Reckless Driving” charge in place of the original DWI she was charged with.

This is a desirable outcome for most DUI cases. The impact of a Reckless Driving conviction is significantly less than a DUI conviction in regard to Employment and Insurance Rate consequences.
